WHICH TRANSLATION SHOULD I USE?
Is there a difference?
Today, we do not give a second thought about the accuracy or any other concerns when deciding which bible we should purchase, read and use for bible study. Each of the many various English translations of the bible promote the features of easy to understand language and a variety of other study helps with the key feature being an easy to read translation.
Now, for a new Christian, this is the limit of their concern but as a person of many years walking with the Lord, this is no longer the primary issue but rather, knowing the devices of our adversary and the extent to which he will seek to undermine God’s authority in the earth and to sway men, even Christians, away from God, it has become vitally important to ensure that the version I am reading has not been translated from a corrupt version of ‘original text’. Versions such as the ESV (English Standard Version), the NIV (New International Version), the RSV (Revised Standard Version), the AMP (Amplified Version) along with many others, have all been translated from what I have found to be a corrupt version of the so called ‘original’ texts. These were not the actual original texts but a perversion of the original and relabeled as ‘original’.
To see for yourself that there ARE differences and those differences can make or break your understanding of various doctrines and to see WHERE those differences are, I am providing here, vital links so you can judge for yourself, which version(s) you will choose. For serious students of the bible, I cannot think that the King James Version is so difficult to read that one would bypass the differences because of ‘readability’ issues. When I came to the Lord in early ’76, I ‘cut my teeth’ on the KJV, not knowing of any other ‘versions’ at the time and through the power of the Holy Spirit, was fully engaged in what the Lord was revealing to me both through His Spirit and confirming through His printed Word. Only until the New King James Version came out did I ‘discover’ there was a great difference between the various other English translations. It was because of those differences shown in this new NKJV that I began my own research to learn as much as was possible at the time (no such thing as the internet then).
What I learned appalled me at first to see how Satan was able to find men who were willing to sell themselves out to him to produce such a perversion as their ‘altered’ version of the original Greek and Hebrew texts. Instead of using the “majority text”, these corrupt me chose what was considered then the “minority text” to do their translations from. None of the major scholars of their day agreed with them at all and were opposed to their work but they still continued and many years later, others chose THEIR work above the ‘majority text’. To illustrate what happened, if you had 10,000 pieces of parchment which all agreed with each other but later found fewer than 1,000 pieces of parchment that did NOT agree with the majority of those already in your possession, would you choose to go with the few or with the majority? These corrupt me chose the fewer, even when they did not agree with and even seemed to contradict the majority text. Satan’s purpose was outlined by Jesus in John 10:10:
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
(John 10:10 NKJV)
In order to affect future generations by corrupting that body of work we know as the Bible to which they will all be taught to depend on, wouldn’t it work just nicely for the devil to corrupt that body of work so that those future Christians will have a completely altered understanding of what God desires of them and to remove the Lordship of Christ in their lives and teach them other false doctrines to cause them to believe in a lie and when the lie is found out, it would appear to them too late to change or to convince them that they cannot rely on God’s Word because ‘HE’ lied to them?
Brethren, we are in a fierce and ugly battle for survival and only those who are truly LED by the Spirit of God will be able to not only stand but come out VICTORIOUS! It is TIME to expose the workings of the evil one and especially in his corruption of the beloved word of God.
Here are a few of the many websites and Pdfs that are available. Perhaps these will encourage you to search even further to discover the many differences between the various translations. Now, I DO see the advantages of some of those easy to read translations where there is not significant disagreement between the versions and I use them often but for my more serious study, I ALWAYS refer to the KJV and NKJV to verify what God is saying and THEN compare them to the other more easy to read versions. The important thing is to communicate clearly what the Spirit is saying to His children but when a major doctrine is at question and the various versions do not agree, I have found over the years that those translations GOD agrees with are the KJV and NKJV. This has been proven to me over and over and over. His Spirit guided those translators way back in 1611 to be true to God’s word and what they produced was a masterpiece of translation into the English language. Was it perfect? No but it is far closer to perfection than any other translation available today. We still must go to the Greek and the Hebrew and at times, the Aramaic, to get to those nuances missed through trying to explain in a single word what actually needs several words to more fully express the heart of what is being revealed.
